bullet Ernest CONRADT was born on Mar 24 1824 in Pomerania, Germany. He emigrated in 1869 from Shiefelbein, Prussia. The couple lived in the village of Shiefelbein, Prussia, near Berlin.
Ernest was a blacksmith by trade. He did not agree with the
conservative policies of Bismark, so decided to emigrate to America in
1862. He died on Mar 9 1907 in Homestead in Maple Creek, Wisconsin. Our Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother were born in Pomerania, Germany. Grandfather was born March 24, 1824, and Grandmother, Febuary 28, 1825.

Later they lived in the village of Shiefelbein, which is in the province of Prussia, near Berlin. He was a blacksmith by trade. In 1862 Bismark was made head of foreign affairs by William I, King ofPrussia. Here upon, Bismark enetered his life's work in unifying Germany and the establishment of a unified Germany which resulted in the most powerful European country. To achieve his goal, he provoked a series of wars. The first move was against Austria to becvome a confederate of Germanic Alliance with Prussia in which they defeated Denmark.

Bismark was considered a conservative, and our Ancestors did not fully agree with Bismark's policies. Therefore, the only alternative left them was to leave Germany, the land they loved, rather than to fight for a Chancellor with whom they did not agree. War was imminent in 1869, the year they left Germany to come to America.

They had heard what great opportunities the United States afforded its early settlers. The decision was made to leave their homeland in order to get away from the policies of Bismark. They spent some time in various areas in Wisconsin before purchasing the "Homestead" in Maple Creek, Wisconsin.

The children and many of the grandchildren remember theri father and grandfather as a man of few words, and who expected immediate action. They were very frugal and ambitious people.

In his later years he got about with the use of a cane, which was also used for the orders to be carried out. The cane was used to frighten the grandchildren if they did not obey.

Both passed away on the "homestead" at Maple Creek, Wis. Ernest Conradt passed away March 9, 1907. Wilhelmena passed away August 10, 1900 at the age of 75 years. Their resting place is in the old Maple Creek cemetery, Wisconsin.
